Curriculum

Overview

Kicklighter Academy is unique from other schools because we offer young children an inclusive learning environment. We teach children with and without disabilities by providing a safe, cooperative atmosphere that is conducive to learning for all students.  Kicklighter Academy uses the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behavior (VB). Under the direction of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), our teachers and tutors are trained and monitored in the science and techniques of ABA. Children from as young as 3 months old are being assessed using the CDC Developmental Milestones Checklists, the Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ3), the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS), the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP), and/or a School Readiness Checklist to identify and address any suspected delays as soon as possible. Individualized ABA programs are developed and implemented for children who exhibit developmental delays.

We ensure every child is receiving the creative learning experiences they require and that they are developing physically, intellectually, and socially. Our activities, games, and curriculum are all formulated to engage your child’s natural curiosity and provide a foundation for lifelong success. Preparing your child to succeed in school and in life is the core of our child care curriculum.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Kicklighter offers Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy.

What is ABA?

  • ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • ABA therapy includes one-on-one, individualized teaching based on a series of assessments.
  • ABA is generally recommended for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, but any student can benefit from ABA services.
  • ABA is proven to reduce deficits in various skills, including language development, academics, social skills, fine and gross motor skills, and behavior.
  • Research shows that 47% of children with ASD who receive Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention, such as ABA, for 3 years at 30 hours per week between the ages of 2 and 6 will no longer need services upon entering school.
Why Choose ABA at Kicklighter Academy?
  • Kicklighter Academy offers not only individualized ABA services but also offers learning experiences in a general education preschool classroom where students with ASD can learn from their typically developing classmates.
  • Students receive ABA services in an ASD-friendly classroom instead of learning at home or in a center. This eases the transition to elementary school while providing a stimulating learning environment.
  • Students can also receive ABA services in their general education classroom to maximize social interactions and
  •  improve social skills.
  • ABA therapy is available for all students, even those who do not attend Kicklighter Academy!
